Business process automation

Work that a person currently does by copying data between two systems, every week, in the same order. That work can usually be described precisely, which means it can be written down as code.

01

What this covers

  • Synchronising records between tools that do not talk to each other
  • Scheduled jobs: reports, reconciliations, reminders, cleanups
  • Webhook receivers with signature verification and replay safety
  • Document and invoice generation from live data
  • Notification flows that go to the right person with the right context
02

When a company needs this

When someone can describe a task in steps and has been doing it manually for months. When the same figure is typed into three systems. When a monthly report takes two days of assembling files.

It is also worth doing when an existing automation exists but nobody trusts it, so the manual process runs in parallel anyway.

03

What usually goes wrong

  • No idempotency, so a retried webhook creates the same order twice
  • Silent failures, so the sync stops in March and is noticed in June
  • Credentials pasted into a low-code tool that half the company can open
  • Automating a broken process instead of fixing the process first
04

What we do

We map the current process with the person who performs it, including the exceptions they handle without thinking about them. The exceptions are usually where the value is.

Then we build it so every run is recorded, every failure is visible, and rerunning something twice does not corrupt data.

05

How the engagement runs

  • Process mapping, written up and confirmed before anything is built
  • One flow first, running alongside the manual process until it is trusted
  • Logging and alerting so someone knows within minutes when it stops
  • Handover with the credentials in your accounts and rotation documented

Which task happens every week by hand?

Describe the steps as you would to a new colleague. That is enough to scope it.
